Introduction to our one-to-one services 

At Coastal Community Connections we understand how important it is to feel connected to others and supported in everyday life. Our One-to-One Service is designed to help individuals who may feel isolated or want build confidence to engage with the community. Whether you’re looking for someone to walk with, share a conversation over coffee, or simply feel more comfortable attending social events, we’re here to help. 

Our services are for anyone over the age of 18, so whether you are new to the area and your little one has just started school or the last one has flown the nest we always try tailor services to meet individual needs Services are offered for an initial 12-week period. After first contact is made, our Befriending Coordinator will have a relaxed chat with you to understand your situation and help match you with the most suitable support.  

Here’s how we can help: 

Buddy Walking 

We all know that getting outside and staying active can-do wonders for both our mental and physical health — but sometimes it’s hard to find the motivation to go it alone. Our Buddy Walking service pairs you with a friendly volunteer who will walk with you, offering companionship and encouragement along the way. 

Whether you prefer a gentle stroll along the beach or a more energetic walk around the countryside, our volunteers will provide motivation and help you feel more confident about getting out and about. 

What to expect from Buddy Walking: 
✔️ Meet and walk with a friendly volunteer at a pace that suits you. 
✔️ Build confidence to explore the local area and engage with the community. 
✔️ Receive gentle encouragement and emotional support through conversation. 
✔️ Your buddy will help you identify and reach personal milestones, whether that’s walking a little further or feeling comfortable joining a group activity. 
✔️ We would also love to meet you at one of our drop-in activities to help you build more connections on your buddy walking journey.  

Befriending Service 

Feeling lonely or disconnected can be tough — but you’re not alone. Our Befriending Service matches you with a volunteer who will provide social support through regular contact, meeting for a coffee, or attending a local event together. 

Our befriending volunteers are here to listen, share conversation, and help you feel more comfortable engaging with others. 

What to expect from Befriending: 
✔️ Regular contact with a dedicated volunteer for conversation and support. 
✔️ Help to build social confidence and feel more comfortable connecting with others. 
✔️ Encouragement to join one of our welcoming drop-in activities to meet new people. 
✔️ Ongoing support and feedback to ensure you feel comfortable and heard. 

Supported Café Service 

Our Supported Café Service is designed to make attending social events easier and more enjoyable. If you’d like to visit one of our regular coffee groups but feel unsure or anxious about attending alone, our volunteers are here to make you feel at ease. 

Whether it’s greeting you at the door, introducing you to others, or simply sitting with you for a chat, our volunteers will help you feel more comfortable and connected. 

What to expect from the Supported Café Service: 
✔️ A warm welcome when you arrive, with someone to greet you and help you settle in. 
✔️ Friendly conversation and support to engage with others in the group. 
✔️ Help with any activities taking place — from joining a discussion to asking a question. 
✔️ Assistance when it’s time to leave, including walking you to your transport if needed. 
✔️ Encouragement to return and build confidence in social settings. 

What we Can't do

  • Telephone befriending  
  • Help in the home  
  • Shopping  
  • Meeting for Coffee at your home
  • Driving somewhere in the car 

However, please don’t let this stop you from getting in touch the chances are some of our services may still be able to help.  

How to Get Started 

Taking the first step can feel difficult — but we’re here to make it easy. After your initial referral, our Befriending Coordinator will have a relaxed chat with you to understand what kind of support would work best for you. From there, we’ll carefully match you with a volunteer who suits your needs and preferences. 

Our services are designed to be flexible and tailored to your comfort level we’re here to help you feel more confident and connected.
