Current Volunteer Roles
Buddy Walking (1 hour each week for 12 weeks)
We all know that walking can significantly improve our mental and physical health. Buddy Walking pairs volunteers with individuals who may benefit from some extra motivation and support to get out and enjoy our beautiful environment. Whether a gentle stroll or a brisk walk, our volunteers provide encouragement and companionship to help individuals stay active and connected to our community.
As a buddy walking volunteer, we ask you to:
- Meet and walk with a customer who may be feeling isolated and unable to get out on their own, seeking to increase physical and social confidence.
- To maintain contact with the individual you have been matched with, to arrange one-off, occasional or regular Buddy Walks (frequency to be agreed by all)
- To give the customer some social interaction and emotional support through conversation encouraging key milestones to be reached.
- Encourage your buddy to join you at one of our drop-in activities to help them connect with others
- Assess and agree the walk route with the individual being mindful of any potential trips and or hazards
- To stay connected with CC staff and feedback any concerns that may need addressing.
Befriending (1 hour per week for 2 weeks)
Through our befriending program, volunteers have the opportunity to support an individual to build meaningful connections within our community. By offering a listening ear, engaging in conversation, and sharing activities together, our volunteers provide much needed companionship and support, building confidence to help the person on their journey to connect with our community.
As a befriending volunteer, we ask you to:
- Make regular contact with the person you have been matched with by Community Connections.
- Provide social interaction and support through conversation, encouraging interaction and building confidence to engage with others. Encourage your befriendee to join you at one of our drop-in activities to help them connect with others
- To stay connected with NBCCC staff and feedback any concerns that may need addressing
Our Supported Café Service (2.5 hours a week, rota'd).
This service offers greater support to people attending one of our regular coffee groups. Some customers may be new to our service, comfortable in a café setting but have asked for extra support, our volunteers help customers to develop their social confidence.
As part of our supported café service, we ask you to:
- Welcome customers, and (where appropriate) introduce them to other attendees, greet them at entrance and offer support to enter the room or take a seat
- Interact with customers, ensuring no one is left alone at a table, supporting social interaction, giving assistance to help them participate in activities (help asking a question to a guest speaker)
- Walking a customer to their taxi on departure and encourage them to return another day.
- To stay connected with Community Connections staff and feedback on any concerns that may need addressing.
- If you are supporting the Scone Café, we ask you to follow the Scone Rota arranged by Team Leaders, ensuring all areas are covered: (reception desk/kitchen/and always two people in the hall)
Vulnerable people
Some of the people we work with may be classed as vulnerable and as such all of our volunteers are required to join the PVG scheme and are asked to provide two references. We will help you do this.
